Nigeria is the United Kingdom’s largest African trading partner, and London to Lagos is one of the busiest long-haul routes from any European city to the African continent. The reason is simple: with over 800,000 people of Nigerian heritage living in the UK — the largest African diaspora community in Britain — this is not just a flight route. It is a lifeline.
At Ethiopian Flights, we have been booking UK to Lagos flights for years. We know when fares drop, how to find the best stopover options, and why calling us directly — especially in peak periods — often gets you a better price than any comparison website. All bookings are ATOL protected.

The UK is home to one of the world’s largest Nigerian communities. Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa and other Nigerian groups are deeply embedded across London, Manchester, Birmingham and beyond. This is not seasonal travel — it is year-round. Christenings, weddings, funerals, school closings, Eid, Christmas, and the simple pull of home drive consistent demand on this route in a way few other African routes can match.
If you are travelling with family — especially a large group for a wedding or family event — always call us before you book. Group fares on the London–Lagos route can save each passenger £100–£200 compared to booking individually online.
Nigeria is the largest economy in Africa and the UK’s biggest African trade partner. Lagos is its commercial nerve centre — home to the Nigerian Stock Exchange, the headquarters of most major Nigerian banks, Nollywood (the world’s second-largest film industry by volume), and a rapidly expanding tech ecosystem concentrated in Yaba and Lekki. British companies with Nigerian operations — and Nigerian executives travelling to London — keep this route commercially important beyond diaspora demand alone.
Business class on this route fills quickly for Monday departures and Thursday returns. Book early, or call us for flexible fare options that allow date changes without heavy penalties.
December is the single most expensive month to fly from the UK to Lagos, and it sells out faster than almost any other African route. The reasons are cultural and deeply felt: Nigerian Christmas celebrations are enormous, combining Christian traditions with family reunions, the “December” social season (parties, owambes, lavish ceremonies), and the simple reality that many UK Nigerians travel home once a year — and Christmas is that time.
If you are planning to travel in December, book by September at the latest. Not “consider booking” — actually commit. We regularly receive calls in November from people who assumed fares would come down and are now paying £300–£500 more per person than they would have in August.
January return fares can be equally expensive. If you have any flexibility on your return date, travelling back in mid-January rather than the first week saves significantly.
Lagos airport has a justified reputation for being busy and occasionally chaotic, particularly on arrival. A few things that make it much smoother:
The cheapest months on the London–Lagos route are February, March, September and October. April to June is mid-season with reasonable fares. July and August are expensive due to UK school holidays. November sees a sharp rise as December demand starts pulling prices up. January is often overlooked as a cheap month — if you can travel in the second or third week of January, fares can be very competitive.
Flying tip: Ethiopian Airlines’ routing via Addis Ababa is often £80–£150 cheaper than direct carriers on economy. The additional travel time (2–3 extra hours) is worth considering against the cost saving, particularly for longer stays.
We specialise in UK to Nigeria flights and we know this market better than most online platforms. Whether you need a single economy fare, business class for a corporate trip, or group bookings for a family event — call us first.
